Between fighting my own irritated, dry skin and trying to soothe my kid’s dry, itchy skin, I realized the need for something better. Every sensitive skin, recommended product on the market was a failure. There was nearly nothing we could find that didn’t cause more irritation. This is when I realized we needed soap, not detergent, which is what most of these common shelf items are made of.

Real soap is made slow, cold processed, with real ingredients you can find in your kitchen pantry. Real soap produces a natural glycerin to hydrate and moisturize the skin. Real soap makes you feel good when you’re done with it, like you’ve just wrapped yourself with cashmere and silk.

My mother introduced me to small batch soap crafting years ago and I immediately fell in love with it. I became obsessed with the science, math, and art that the process brought to our simple little homeschooling life we were creating. The kids could help partake in this staple we use in our home while learning the basics of measuring and pouring, and the art of designing and crafting. I could make my own recipes with ingredients I could pronounce and find at the local small town market. Nothing harsh, fake or punishing about it. Simple, clean, natural, and balanced products for our entire family to enjoy.  

We later started making a follow up tallow balm for after bathing. Just like with the detergents in the stores, the lotions were just as bad at irritating our skin. Tallow Balm can’t get any simpler or straight forward for being old-fashioned skin care. Tallow is even better at connecting with our skin than other plant based oils commonly used in natural skin care products, making that first time application of tallow and Bee’s wax something to fall in love with.
